In Washington, D.C., at Maryknoll, N.Y., and in New York City, across from the UN.
We provide information and analysis of critical issues and events such as peace-building initiatives; practical new relationships with Earth; transparency and participation in political and economic arenas; and just economic alternatives.
We cooperate with other Maryknoll departments on education and advocacy initiatives.
We collaborate with various institutions and organizations working for peace, social justice and the integrity of creation, on strategy for advocacy; public statements to policymakers; education materials; conferences, meetings and public witness.
Our office works regularly with other Catholic and faith-based organizations and communities working for peace, social justice and the integrity of creation. We serve as a resource for Maryknollers, and we attempt to bring the voice and experience of Maryknoll into policy discussions in the United Nations, the U.S. and other governments, international financial institutions and the corporate world.
Maryknoll is the popular name of the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America (priests and brothers), and the Maryknoll Sisters of St. Dominic. The lay missioner branch of the Maryknoll family is the Maryknoll Lay Missioners. Maryknoll trains, recruits and supports missioners serving in more than thirty countries in Latin America, Asia and the Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.
The Fathers and Brothers' Justice and Peace Office, established in 1974, and the Maryknoll Sisters' Office of Social Concerns, established in 1978, were created to assist in carrying out Maryknoll's responsibility of promoting concern and action for justice as constitutive to the preaching of the Gospel and so too Maryknoll's work of mission.
The Office for Global Concerns is involved with many collaborative efforts both with leadership of the Maryknoll Fathers & Brothers, the Maryknoll Sisters and the MLM, and within the Washington ecumenical community.
